How to join a Rocket League club, run one, and get a team into the RLCS

Last updated 5 November 2026

You join a Rocket League club only when its owner or one of its managers invites you: there's no club search and no way to apply. Since the June 2025 update, they can invite you straight from their Recent Players list, so one good match together can be enough to get you in. The RLCS uses the word for something else. Its 2027 season is the Club Championship, where a club is a registered team of three or four players, and it needs no in-game club at all.

This guide is for a player who wants a club to play in, an owner filling one, or a trio aiming at the RLCS. It covers how clubs work, how to join one, how to make and run one, what a club is in the RLCS's 2027 season, what a team needs to enter it, and how to find a club or a team. For other games, see every game's team format.

In short

  • A Rocket League club holds up to 20 players, owner included, and you join only when its owner or a manager invites you. Nobody can apply, and the game has no club search.
  • Since the June 2025 update, owners and managers can invite players from the Recent Players menu, and clubmates show as online and can ask to join each other's parties.
  • An account can be in one club at a time. An owner can leave only after handing ownership to another member, and an owner who leaves as the last member deletes the club and all its progress.
  • In the RLCS, a club is a team: three starters and up to one reserve, each at least 13. Two of the three players, or three of four with a reserve, must be citizens or legal residents of the team's region, or study or work there. No rule ties it to an in-game club.
  • The RLCS's 2027 season starts with the Club Kick-Off in London on 9–13 December 2026, for 20 invited clubs and four open qualifier winners. From January 2027, 64 teams play regional Club Leagues, and 40 of those places go through open qualifiers.

How Rocket League clubs work

A club is a name, a tag and two colours shared by up to 20 players, owner included, by Epic's page on Clubs. It sits under Club on the main menu, and an account can be in one club at a time.

  • Roles. A club has one owner, any managers the owner appoints, and members. Managers can do everything the owner can except name a new owner, by Epic's page on club ownership.
  • Playing together. Clubmates party up and queue as anyone does, and still play with people outside the club. Psyonix's notes for update v2.53, from June 2025, added an online status for every member and let a member ask to join another member's party.
  • Club matches. A match where every player on one team is in the same club is a club match, and its intro shows that club's medals.
  • Club colours. When both teams are clubs, the arena takes their colours and the teams take their club names, by Psyonix's 2018 post on Clubs. That happens in Casual and Competitive playlists, not in Private Matches or tournaments. If the two clubs' colours are too alike, one team takes its secondary colours or a neutral set.
  • Medals and titles. A club earns medals for its members' goals, saves and assists, each at three tiers: Prospect, Signature and Premier. The same tier in all three earns a title for the season, such as PROSPECT CLUB, and Premier in all three gives the club a special profile icon. Medals reset every season. Only matches with at least two clubmates in a party count towards them, so a club whose members never play together earns nothing. A new club also gets 12 titles to choose from, such as DEMO DEVILS and IN DA CLUB.
  • Platforms. By the 2018 post, a club takes members on any platform.
  • Child accounts. A child's Cabined Account may have clubs switched off until a parent or guardian allows them, by Epic's page on Clubs.

Joining a club

The only way in is an invite from the club's owner or one of its managers. Nobody can apply, and the game has no list of clubs to browse, so you get into a club through someone in it.

  • Getting invited. Since update v2.53, owners and managers can invite players from the Recent Players menu. By Epic's friends list page, it holds the last 25 players you played with or against, so a club's owner or manager you've just played with can invite you after the match. Psyonix's 2018 post describes the other way: party up with the owner, and the invite pops up once they send it.
  • Accepting. The invite waits under Notifications in the friends list, where you accept it.
  • One club at a time. If you're already in a club, leave it first.
  • What you bring. Your goals, saves and assists start counting towards the club's medals at once, in matches you play with a clubmate in your party. What you earned for a previous club stays with that club, by Epic's page on Clubs.

Making and running a club

Creating one. Select Club on the main menu, then Create Club, choose the name and colours, and select Accept, by Epic's page on creating a club. You also pick the tag, the short label shown before each member's name. By Psyonix's 2018 post, the game filters names and tags it finds inappropriate.

Renaming it. Only the owner can change the name and tag, and only once every 7 days, by Epic's page on renaming: Club, then Club Customization, then Rename Club.

Inviting and managers. Owners and managers invite from the Recent Players menu. Managers can do everything but name a new owner, by Epic's page on Clubs, so appoint one or two and the club can still take new members when you're offline. Club Customization also turns off the medals shown in match intros, for a club that plays for fun.

Colours that don't show. Color Blind Mode hides club colours, by Epic's page on club colours. Turn it off under Settings, then Interface. The 2018 post also gave players a setting to turn club colours off, so a clubmate who sees none may have done that.

Handing it over. The owner transfers ownership by selecting another member's name on the Club screen, by the 2018 post. Do it before you stop playing: Epic Support can't change club roles, by Epic's page on owners without access. If the owner is banned, nobody can take their place, but the club's managers keep running it.

Leaving. Select Club on the main menu, then Leave Club, and confirm, by Epic's page on leaving. An owner has to transfer ownership first, and an owner who is the club's only member deletes it by leaving. Deleting a club loses its medals, stats and titles. A manager or the owner leaving doesn't.

Clubs in the RLCS's 2027 season

In the RLCS, a club is a team. Psyonix calls the 2027 season the Club Championship, "one season, three acts": the Club Kick-Off, the Club League with its Opens, and the Club Finale. Psyonix's announcement put $2.5 million on the Kick-Off and invited 20 clubs, organisations that RLEsports named one by one in October. The rest of the field comes through open qualifiers, which Psyonix calls Opens:

Stage When Who plays
Club Kick-Off Opens 5–22 November 2026 Any team in North America, Europe, South America or the Middle East and North Africa. Each region's winner goes to the Kick-Off
Club Kick-Off 9–13 December 2026, in London 24 teams: the 20 invited and the four Open winners
Club League Opens Not announced yet Any team, in each of the seven regions, for the Club League's 40 open places
Club League From January 2027 64 teams: 12 each in North America and Europe, 8 each in the Middle East and North Africa, South America, Oceania, Asia-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa
Club Finale Not announced yet 16 teams, at a LAN

All 24 Kick-Off teams take Club League places, by RLEsports' update on the Club Championship, so the four Open winners are in the league too.

The Opens. Each one starts as a double-elimination bracket for every team that registers, by the Club Championship rules. Matches are best of three until 192 teams are left and best of five after, over up to two days, until 32 remain. Those 32 play a Swiss stage in two groups of 16. The 16 that win three matches play two GSL groups of eight, and the last eight play a bracket of best-of-seven matches. A Kick-Off Open runs until one team is left. A Club League Open runs until its region's open league places are filled.

The Club League. Each region's teams play each other once, in best-of-five matches. The top four in North America and in Europe go to the Club Finale, with the top two in the Middle East and North Africa and in South America, and the top team in Oceania, Asia-Pacific and Sub-Saharan Africa. The Kick-Off winner's region sends one more.

Prize money and Club Points. Every team wins prize money by where it finishes in each stage. Only the invited teams also earn Club Points, which decide a further prize for their owners after the Club Finale.

As of November 2026, Psyonix hasn't said when the Club League Opens run, where the Club Finale is, whether 2027 has Majors or a World Championship as well, or whether a team that reaches the Club League keeps its place in 2028.

What a team needs to enter the RLCS

The Club Championship rules, last updated 16 October 2026, apply to every Open and every stage:

  • The roster. Three starters and up to one reserve, plus a coach and a manager if you want them, both at least 18. Nobody can be on two rosters at once.
  • Age. At least 13, or older where your country requires it, and a player under 18 needs a parent or guardian to accept the rules too. A Cabined Account can't enter.
  • The account. An Epic account in your own name, in good standing and never bought or gifted, with two-factor authentication on. One account per player, and one region for the whole season.
  • Residency. "A Team must field a majority of Players who are residents or citizens of the Region in which they are competing": two of three players, or three of four with a reserve. Citizenship, permanent or long-term legal residency, in-person study or a work placement in the region all count. Coaches and managers don't count towards the majority.
  • Regions. The rules list each region's countries, and players from a few countries can choose between two regions. Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela can play in North America or South America. Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia can play in Europe or the Middle East and North Africa, and Pakistan in the Middle East and North Africa or Asia-Pacific.
  • Registration. On start.gg's RLCS Club Championship hub: one player creates the team, and the others join it by searching its name or by invite. Every player registers before registration closes, and the roster locks then.
  • Names. No "Rocket League", "Psyonix" or other Epic trademark in a team or player name. From an Open's GSL stage on, in-game names must match what the team registered, and the team is asked for a logo.
  • Roster changes. A team in a Club League gets one transfer window in the season, to add one player, plus one exempt addition as its reserve.
  • Platforms and servers. Every platform plays together. The early rounds use the region's ordinary servers, US-Central by default in North America, and the later ones the RLCS's own.

The residency rule is wider than 2026's. Psyonix's 2026 season post counted only citizenship and permanent legal residency, so a player studying or working abroad can now count towards the region they live in.

Finding a club, or a team

A club to join. Look for one whose members play your playlists, in your region, at your hours. A club full of people who no longer play gives you nobody to queue with, and no medals. Epic's page on finding teammates points to the official Rocket League Discord and its #club-recruitment channel. After a good match with a player who has a club, ask them to invite you from Recent Players.

Filling your club. Recruit players who play when your members do, in the same region, and invite them straight after a match that went well. Twenty is the cap, so a club that keeps members who've stopped playing runs out of room for players who would.

An RLCS team. Start from the residency rule: two of your three must be eligible in your region, and with a reserve, three of your four must be. Agree who creates the team on start.gg, and have everyone register well before registration closes. How to make an esports team covers tryouts and keeping a roster together, and Rocket League's in-game tournaments are where a new trio gets its practice every evening.

Post on TeamTavern. To find a club or a team, put up a player post with your 2s and 3s rank, your server and your platform, tick "Casual", "Ranked" or "Scrims and tournaments" under "Looking for", and say in the description that you're looking for a club. A club recruiting members puts up a community post with its server, its platform and what it plays under "Looking for", and its name and tag in the description. A duo or trio looking for players for the RLCS puts up a group post with its 2s and 3s ranks, its server, "RLCS" ticked under "Looking for", and its region in the description. Add your Epic ID as a contact, so whoever answers can add you and invite you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I join a club in Rocket League?

Get its owner or one of its managers to invite you. They can invite you from the Recent Players menu after you've played together, or, as Psyonix described in 2018, while you're in their party, and the invite waits under Notifications in your friends list. You can't apply to a club or search for one in the game, and you have to leave any club you're in first.

How many people can be in a Rocket League club?

Up to 20, owner included.

How do I leave a club in Rocket League if I'm the owner?

Transfer ownership to another member first, by selecting their name on the Club screen, then select Club on the main menu and Leave Club. An owner who is the club's only member deletes the club by leaving, along with its medals, stats and titles.

Why can't I see club colours in Rocket League?

Color Blind Mode hides them: turn it off under Settings, then Interface. Club colours also show only when both teams are clubs, in Casual or Competitive, not in Private Matches or tournaments.

How often can I change my club's name and tag in Rocket League?

Once every 7 days, and only the owner can, under Club, then Club Customization, then Rename Club.

What are the club trophies in Rocket League?

On PlayStation, four trophies need a club, by the game's PlayStation trophy list as Exophase shows it: Join the Club! for creating or joining one, Together is Better for completing an online match with a clubmate, People Person for completing ten, and Squad Goals for scoring a goal in a club match in online matchmaking. A club whose members play gets them done in an evening.

How old do you have to be to play in the RLCS?

At least 13, or older where your country requires it, under the Club Championship rules for the 2027 season. A player under 18 needs a parent or guardian to accept the rules too, and a coach or manager must be at least 18.

How do you qualify for the RLCS in 2027?

Through an Open. The Club Kick-Off Opens of November 2026 give one team from each of four regions a place at the Kick-Off in London. The Club League, which starts in January 2027, has 64 places, and Club League Opens in all seven regions fill the 40 that the invited clubs and Kick-Off teams don't take. Their dates aren't announced yet. The best teams in each Club League go on to the 16-team Club Finale.

Do you need an in-game club to play in the RLCS?

No. An RLCS club is a team registered on start.gg, and the Club Championship rules never mention the in-game club.

Find your club

  • Get invited by a club's owner or manager, for example straight after a match from Recent Players.
  • Pick a club whose members play at your hours, so there's always someone to party up with.
  • Hand over ownership before you stop playing.
  • For the RLCS, check that two of your three players are eligible in your region before you register.

Post as a player looking for a club, as a club looking for members, or as a group looking for RLCS players: Rocket League players and groups on TeamTavern. The official Rocket League Discord has a #club-recruitment channel too.
