How to build a Marvel Rivals Championship team

Last updated 30 September 2026

Most pages about finding a Marvel Rivals team are sign-up forms. None of them mentions the rules of the game's own tournament: every member at Platinum 3 in this season's Competitive, everyone on the same platform, and a roster that can't change once it's registered.

This guide is for a player putting together a Faction, the game's name for a team, for this season's Marvel Rivals Championship, or a stack to climb to its rank bar with. It covers what the Championship is, what a Faction needs to register, who you can queue Competitive with while you climb, how to recruit, and how the Championship leads to Ignite, the pro circuit. For other games, see every game's team format.

In short

  • The Championship runs once a season from the game's Tournament tab. A team is a Faction of six to twelve players, all on one platform, and every one of them must reach Platinum 3 in that season's Competitive before the Faction registers.
  • The roster locks once registration succeeds, so register seven or eight, not six.
  • While you climb, players from Gold to Celestial can party only within three divisions of each other, and from Celestial up only in pairs.
  • On PC, the Championship is the open way into Ignite. Console Factions play a Championship of their own, and it's as far as console goes.

What the Marvel Rivals Championship is

The Marvel Rivals Championship is the game's own tournament for teams, run from the Tournament tab. NetEase's Season 7 rules call it "a quarterly event that follows the game's seasons", and each season it's played as seven separate events: China on PC, and a PC event and a Console event in each of Americas, EMEA and Pacific. A Faction plays only the Factions in its own event.

A season's Championship has four stages:

  • Sign-up, about two weeks, in the Tournament tab.
  • The open qualifier, one weekend, from 19:00 to 23:00 in the region's time on both evenings. The captain or coach queues the Faction for "Tournament" matchmaking, and each Faction plays up to 10 best-of-1 matches. The top 128 go straight to double elimination.
  • The closed qualifier, the next weekend, for places 129 to 512, played the same way. Its top 128 go through.
  • Double elimination for those 256 Factions, over the three weekends after. Matches are best-of-3 until 16 Factions are left, then best-of-5, and the final is best-of-7.

In Season 7, sign-up ran from 28 March to 11 April 2026 and closed an hour before the open qualifier began. The final was on 10 May. Each season's dates are on the Tournament tab.

Each event outside China paid its top four Factions $7,000, $3,500, $2,500 and $1,500 in Season 7, split equally among everyone on the roster at the registration deadline. A Faction that plays at least 6 open-qualifier matches earns Units and exclusive items, as the Season 10 patch notes confirm, and results on PC earn Champion Points toward Ignite.

What your Faction needs to register

At least six players on one platform, every one of them at Platinum 3 in this season's Competitive. The captain or coach registers the Faction in the Tournament tab, and registration succeeds once every member has confirmed.

Requirement The rule What it means for recruiting
Members At least 6, and a Faction holds up to 12. Any 6 registered members can play a match Register 7 or 8
Rank Platinum 3 in the current season's Competitive, for every member Rank resets each season, so check it this season
Platform Players on different platforms can't share a Faction Recruit on your platform
Registration The captain or coach registers, and every member confirms before the deadline Everyone has to be online during sign-up
Roster lock Once registration succeeds, nobody is added or removed until the Faction is out. It can cancel and register again twice before the deadline Add the subs before you register
Places A cap per region: 2,500 Factions in Season 7 Register early in the window

The latest rules NetEase has published are Season 7's, version 1.7, so check the Tournament tab for anything that has changed since. NetEase's Season 7 announcement puts two of them simply: "Each Faction must contain at least 6 players", and "Players must register through the 'Tournament' page in the game."

Three rules decide who you recruit:

  • Your platform is the device you registered on. A PC player teams only with PC players, and a console player only with console players.
  • Subs have to be registered. Between matches a Faction can swap in any of its registered members, but nobody else, even for one match. Prize money is split among everyone registered, whether they played or not, so agree how that works with your subs before sign-up.
  • Ignite players can't enter. Anyone on the roster of an Ignite team is barred from the Championship.

Climbing to Platinum 3: who you can queue with

In Competitive, players from Gold to Celestial can party only within three divisions of each other. From Bronze to Grandmaster any party size is allowed except five, and from Celestial up only solo or duo.

The Season 5 patch notes set the party sizes, and the game's rank restrictions panel spells out the rest:

  • Competitive opens at account level 15, by the Season 2 patch notes.
  • The three-division limit starts at Gold, so Bronze and Silver players aren't held to it.
  • An Eternity or One Above All player queues solo or in a duo, and the panel lets them team with a Celestial II player within 200 points.
  • When a party's ranks are too far apart, the game refuses the queue with "Team member RANK gap is significant."
  • While anyone in the party is still playing placement matches, the party can have at most three players, and its highest and lowest must be less than three divisions apart. The game's message then is "Has placement match player, rank gap too great".
  • PC and console players can't queue Competitive together, as the closed beta FAQ first set out. PlayStation (PS5 and PS4) and Xbox players can. NetEase's cross-progression Q&A says rank is kept separately for PC, PlayStation and Xbox, so the same player can be Grandmaster on PlayStation and Gold on Xbox.
  • Each season starts with 10 placement matches. The starting estimate is last season's final rank less three divisions, capped at Grandmaster II. Since the Season 7 patch notes, placements move it by up to 100 points either way on your own play, not your team's.

For a Faction, that means members within three divisions of each other can climb together, as a full six below Celestial once everyone has finished placements. A Faction spread wider, from Gold to Diamond say, climbs in smaller parties of close ranks. From Celestial up the Faction can't queue Competitive together at all, and practises in custom games and scrims against other Factions.

Recruiting your Faction

Create the Faction in the game, then recruit for the qualifier weekend and the roles you're missing, on your platform and your region's servers. Recruit seven or eight, so a missed evening doesn't end your run.

Create the Faction. Go to Tournament, then Faction, then Create Faction. It takes a name and tag, a primary language, a region, a rank requirement for applicants and an admission rule, "Free to Join" or "Apply to Join". Whoever creates the Faction is its captain, and its platform is theirs. For the Championship, set the rank requirement to Platinum 3 rather than None.

Know what the in-game list does. Players browse and search Factions, see each one's language, server region, rank requirement, roles and member count, and apply. That puts your Faction in front of players who are looking, but it doesn't bring anyone to you: a player can't list themselves there, and a captain can't search for players. So post where players look too.

Fix the evenings first. The open qualifier is two evenings, 19:00 to 23:00 in your region's time, and a Faction that goes deep plays up to four more weekends. Recruit players who can make those, then set a practice night each week before them.

Recruit players who'll reach Platinum 3 early. Rank resets every season, and sign-up closes a few weeks in. A player who was Platinum 3 last season doesn't count until they're there again.

Name the roles you're missing. The game sorts its heroes into Tank (Vanguard), DPS (Duelist) and Support (Strategist), and Competitive has no role queue, so the Faction decides its own composition. Ask for the roles you're short of, not all three.

Agree on one region's servers. The official game guide lists Oregon, Dallas and Northern Virginia in North America, São Paulo, Frankfurt and Warsaw in Europe, Dammam, and Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney. Marvel Rivals posts on TeamTavern name theirs under Server.

Try people out. Play a few Competitive games together if your ranks allow it, or a custom game against another Faction. How to make an esports team covers running tryouts and keeping a roster together.

Post your Faction. Put up a group post with your rank range, where Platinum 3 is Platinum III, the roles you're missing, your server and platform, and "Marvel Rivals Championship" ticked under "Looking for". Then filter the player posts for it and message the ones that fit.

From the Championship to Ignite

On PC, the Championship is the open way into Marvel Rivals Ignite, the game's pro circuit. Console has no path beyond its own Championship.

  • Champion Points. Championship results on PC earn Champion Points, and by the Season 10 patch notes, Season 11's Championship is the last to count toward 2026's. Its top Factions and the Champion Points leaders are invited to the Ignite Series 2026 Annual Qualifier, where they play select pro-circuit teams for places in the 2027 Pro Circuit.
  • Adults only. A Faction that qualifies for Ignite through the Championship needs every member to be of adult age when it submits its roster, by the Season 7 rules.
  • Ignite's own roster rules. Ignite's 2026 rules make it PC only, with six starters, up to two subs and up to two managers or coaches. Players prove their residency, and a team can have at most two from outside its region. A team that qualifies keeps at least four of its Championship players, and twelve Partner teams are invited directly.

Frequently asked questions

What rank do you need for the Marvel Rivals Championship?

Platinum 3 in the current season's Competitive, for every member, on the platform the Faction plays on. Last season's rank doesn't count.

How many players are in a Faction?

At least six to register, and up to twelve in all. Any six registered members can play a match, so register seven or eight to cover a missed evening.

Can PC and console players play Competitive together?

No. PC and console are matched separately, and the Championship runs separate PC and Console events. PlayStation and Xbox players can queue together, though each platform keeps its own rank.

Why can't I queue Competitive as a party of five?

Five is the one party size Competitive refuses from Bronze to Grandmaster. Queue as four, or add a sixth. From Celestial up, it's solo or duo only.

Can console players reach Ignite?

Not from console: Ignite is PC only in 2026, so the Console Championship is the top of the ladder there. A console player who wants the pro path has to play Competitive on PC, where their rank starts over.

Find your Faction

  • Reach Platinum 3 early in the season, and make sure every member does.
