FNCS 2027 is Trios: how to find a trio and qualify
Last updated 26 October 2026
FNCS goes back to Trios in 2027. Players chose it in a vote, and Epic announced the result at the 2026 Global Championship. News of the vote leaves out what Epic's rules mean for whoever you team with. Under 2026's rules, a team couldn't swap a player between a Major's Play-In and its Finals except by starting over at the Last Chance Qualifier, it had no subs, and it could enter only the Divisional Cups that the lowest Division among its players allowed.
This guide is for a player who wants to play FNCS in 2027 and needs two teammates for it. It covers what Epic has announced, who's eligible, how a trio qualifies, the rules that hold a trio together, what to do before the season starts, and how to find and try out a trio. For other games, see every game's team format.
In short
- FNCS 2027 is Trios. Epic hasn't published its schedule yet. For 2026, it announced the season in December 2025 and opened it at the end of January with the FNCS Trial, a team event that placed players into Divisions.
- Under 2026's rules, every player needs account level 350, two-factor authentication, 14 Epic tournaments in the last 180 days, and Gold in ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build or Reload to enter the Divisional Cups.
- In 2026, a team entered only the Divisional Cups its lowest player had reached, and a Major's Play-In took Division 1 for every player.
- In 2026, a player stayed on one team from a Major's Play-In to its Finals, changing teammates only at the Last Chance Qualifier, and a team that wasn't all there scored last place for that match.
- Start now: tournaments you play this autumn count toward the 14 for the season's first events, and a trio that forms before the first event can be placed into a Division together.
What's known about FNCS 2027
Fortnite Competitive announced on 27 September 2026 that FNCS 2027 is Trios. Players had voted between Duos and Trios for "FNCS Battle Royale 2027" on the Legends Landing island in the weeks before the Global Championship in Antwerp. It's a return: FNCS 2025 was played in trios, and 2026 in duos.
Epic also announced three more championships for 2027, by Fortnite Tracker's report: the Reload Championship returns, joined by a new Reload Zero Build Championship and Arenas Fight Night. Their formats haven't been announced.
Epic hasn't published 2027's schedule or rules yet. Last year gives an idea of when. Epic announced FNCS 2026 on 10 December 2025, and the FNCS season opened on 31 January with the FNCS Trial, which placed players into Divisions. By the FNCS 2026 rules, the Majors' Play-Ins were in April and July, and the Global Championship was on 26–27 September.
Until 2027's rules are out, this guide goes by 2026's, with each rule linked to where Epic states it. Epic changes them from year to year, so check the Rules Library once 2027's are published.
Who can play FNCS
Every player on the team has to meet Epic's Competitive Master Rules, which every Epic tournament follows, and the rules of the FNCS season. In 2026 those asked for:
| Requirement | The rule | What it means for your trio |
|---|---|---|
| Age | 13 or over. Under 18, a parent or guardian accepts the rules too | Under-18s need a parent on board before the season |
| Account level | 350 or above, shown in the Career tab | Ask a recruit's level before you agree on anything |
| Tournaments | At least 14 different Epic tournaments in the last 180 days | A recruit who doesn't play cups isn't eligible yet |
| Rank | Gold or higher in ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build or Reload, to enter the FNCS Trial and the lowest Divisional Cup | Each of you reaches Gold in one of the three |
| Security | Two-factor authentication on the Epic account, and on PC, Secure Boot, TPM and IOMMU turned on | Set it up before the first cup, not on the night |
| Account | In your own name, never bought, gifted or shared, and no competitive ban of 14 days or longer | One account each, played by its owner |
| Region | One region for the whole of a Major | All three play on the same region's servers |
Epic's How to Qualify for FNCS page asks for the PC security settings and names only Gold in ranked Battle Royale. The Divisional Cup rules accept Gold in ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build or Reload.
How a trio qualifies
Through the Divisions first. Each player holds an FNCS Division, from 5 at the bottom to 1 at the top.
The Trial placed the first Divisions. In 2026, the FNCS Trial on 31 January was a single session for duos, open to teams whose players were all Gold or higher in ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build or Reload. The top 1,000 duos went into Division 2. In Europe and NA Central the next 2,000 went into Division 3, and the 10,000 after them in Europe, or 5,000 in NA Central, into Division 4. Epic hasn't said whether 2027 opens the same way, or whether a Division reached in 2026 carries over.
The Divisional Cups move teams up. By the Divisional Cup rules, teams play weekly cups for their Division:
- In Europe and NA Central, Gold in ranked enters the Division 5 Cup. The top 400 teams of a Division 5 Cup move up to Division 4, the top 200 of Division 4 to Division 3, the top 100 of Division 3 to Division 2, and the top 50 of Division 2 to Division 1.
- In NA West, Brazil, Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, the other five of Epic's seven tournament regions, Gold in ranked enters the Division 3 Cup, and the climb from there is the same.
- A Division lasts, from one Fortnite season to the next within the FNCS year, and a player can also play the cups of any Division below their own.
- Division 1 Cups pay. Each week's top 50 Division 1 teams play a final for cash prizes.
A team plays at its lowest Division. Every player on a team must have reached a Division to enter its cup, so a trio in Europe of a Division 1, a Division 2 and a Division 4 player could enter only the Division 4 and 5 Cups. The team climbs together from there. That's the reverse of ranked, where Epic's guide to ranked sets a party's lobbies by its highest-ranked member.
A Major's Play-In takes Division 1 for every player. By the FNCS 2026 rules, each Major ran in four stages:
- Play-In, two sessions of about three hours and up to 11 matches each. The top 150 teams in Europe and NA Central, and the top 100 elsewhere, go on to the Heats.
- Heats. A Victory Royale in a heat goes straight to the Finals, and so do the next 10 teams of each heat in Europe and NA Central, and the next 18 elsewhere.
- Last Chance Qualifier, open to players from Division 5 up in Europe and NA Central, and from Division 3 up elsewhere. Its top 50 teams play a Last Chance Lobby, where a Victory Royale takes a team to the Finals.
- Finals, 12 matches over two days, for prize money and places at the year's LAN events. In 2026, the Global Championship's 50 teams played for $2,000,000.
The rules that hold a trio together
Four of the FNCS 2026 rules decide who you recruit, because they leave no way to fix a bad pick in the middle of a Major:
- One team from the Play-In to the Finals. "You may only participate on a single team during the duration of the Play-In Stage, Heats Stage, and Finals." Teammates can change only at the start of the Last Chance Qualifier, and a team that reaches the Finals through it is locked together for them.
- No subs. Every player on a team must be "present and partied up together" for each match. A team that isn't scores last place, with no eliminations, for that match. A trio has nobody to cover a missed evening, so recruit players who can make every session.
- One region for the Major. Once you play a Play-In session in a region, you're locked to it for that Major. A trio plays the region where all three have a playable ping.
- A qualified team stays together. From the moment a team qualifies for the Global Championship, it's locked together for every FNCS event left in the year, the Global Championship included. A player who wants to leave needs the whole team to agree to disband, by a deadline, and the team gives up its place.
In 2026, Epic split each team's prize money evenly between its players and paid each player directly, never an organisation.
Get ready before the FNCS season starts
Everything but the trio itself can be done alone, and now.
Play your 14 tournaments. The 180 days count back from each FNCS event, so if 2027 keeps the rule and opens around the end of January, as 2026 did, tournaments you play this autumn count toward its first events. The window rolls, so keep playing cups through the year. In October 2026, Ranked Cups and Victory Cups ran every week, in solos and duos. By Epic's page on joining tournaments, you enter from the Compete tab in the Battle Royale lobby, and the rounds and regions of one tournament count as one.
Reach Gold in ranked. Ranks reset every Fortnite season. Epic said in May 2026 that tournament eligibility would also count your previous season's rank, whichever is higher, so Gold this season should cover the next one too.
Check your account. Level 350 in the Career tab, two-factor authentication on, and on PC, Secure Boot, TPM and IOMMU turned on.
Find the trio early. In 2026, the FNCS season's first event, the Trial, placed each team's players into Divisions by how the team finished. If 2027 opens the same way, a trio that forms before it is placed together. One that forms in the spring starts from the lowest Division among its players, and starts the climb late.
Recruiting your trio
Recruit for your region, your evenings and your Division first, then for skill. Two strong players who can't make your sessions, or play another region, are no use to the trio.
Region and evenings. In 2026, every FNCS session ran about three hours in the evening of its region, and a Major's stages fell on several days across two or three weeks. Check that all three can make those evenings.
Division. A Division 1 player can't take you into Division 1 Cups: under 2026's rules, a team plays at the lowest Division among its players. Recruit players at your Division, or agree to climb from the lowest one.
Build or Zero Build. FNCS Battle Royale is played with building. Zero Build players have the new Reload Zero Build Championship instead, though its format isn't out yet, so recruit builders for FNCS.
Roles. A trio usually has fraggers and a support, with one player calling rotations as in-game leader. Recruit for the role you're short of, and agree on who calls.
Check their results. Epic's Power Rankings, live since June 2026, rank every player weekly by their 20 best Battle Royale and Reload tournament results and their ranked tier in both modes. Search for a recruit, and pin up to eight players to compare. On TeamTavern, a Fortnite post with an Epic ID links to the player's stats on Fortnite Tracker and fortnite.gg.
Fortnite Tracker's LFP list. Fortnite Tracker's Looking for Player list shows players looking for teammates for competitive events, filtered by region, event, Power Ranking and earnings. Posts expire after 48 hours, so it suits a partner for this week's cup more than a trio for the year.
The official Discord. Fortnite has no party finder in the game. Epic's page on finding teammates points players to the "Fortnite LFG" channel of the official Fortnite Discord, and to the friends list.
Post on TeamTavern. Put up a player post with your Battle Royale or Reload rank, your role, whether you can lead, Build under Building, your server and platform, and "FNCS" ticked under "Looking for". Add your Epic ID as a contact, and say in the description which FNCS Division you reached and which evenings you play. A duo looking for a third puts up a group post the same way. Then filter the posts for FNCS and message the ones that fit.

Trying out a trio
Play together before the Play-In. From then until the Finals, the three of you are the team.
Cups. The season's first event and the Divisional Cups are the real test, once they start. Epic's trio cups this autumn were few: its Performance Evaluation cups ran as trios in October 2026, but only for players in Division 1 or the top 5,000 of the Power Rankings.
Creative islands. These are trio and 3v3 practice islands, with their codes, as listed on fortnite.gg on 26 October 2026:
- TRIO CUP ZONE WARS [ENDGAME], 9133-8645-9405: ten trios in late-game zones, scored with a tournament's point system.
- GO GOATED! Zone Wars, 3305-1551-7747: four teams of up to four in classic zone wars.
- Piece Control 3v3, 6366-6217-9042, and SPEED 3V3 REALISTICS, 6369-4500-6726: boxfights, three against three.
Creators update and retire islands, so check a code before you share it with your trio.
Agree before the first cup: your region, the evenings you play, who calls, and what happens if one of you can't make a session, since the team scores nothing without all three. How to make an esports team covers tryouts and keeping a team together.
Frequently asked questions
Is FNCS 2027 Duos or Trios?
Trios. Players chose it in a vote, and Fortnite Competitive announced the result on 27 September 2026, during the Global Championship. FNCS 2025 was Trios too, and 2026 was Duos.
When does FNCS 2027 start?
Epic hasn't said. In 2026 it announced the season on 10 December 2025 and opened it with the FNCS Trial on 31 January, with Majors from April and the Global Championship in late September.
What do you need to play FNCS?
Under 2026's rules: age 13 or over, with a parent's consent under 18; account level 350; two-factor authentication; 14 Epic tournaments in the last 180 days; and Gold in ranked Battle Royale, Zero Build or Reload to enter the Divisional Cups. On PC, Secure Boot, TPM and IOMMU must be on.
Can you change teammates during an FNCS Major?
Under 2026's rules, only at the start of the Last Chance Qualifier. From the Play-In through the Heats to the Finals you stayed on one team, and a team that reached the Finals through the Last Chance Qualifier stayed together for them.
Can an FNCS trio have a substitute?
Not under 2026's rules, the latest Epic has published. Every player had to be present and in the party for each match, and a team that wasn't scored last place with no eliminations for that match.
What Division do you need for an FNCS Major?
In 2026, Division 1, for every player on the team, to enter the Play-In. The Last Chance Qualifier takes players from Division 5 up in Europe and NA Central, and from Division 3 up elsewhere.
Where can I find a trio for FNCS?
Epic points players to the official Fortnite Discord's LFG channel, Fortnite Tracker keeps a Looking for Player list for single events, and on TeamTavern players and duos post with "FNCS" ticked under "Looking for", with their rank, role, server and platform.
Find your trio
- Play your 14 tournaments and reach Gold before the FNCS season starts.
- Recruit two players at your Division, on your region's servers, who can make every session.
- Form the trio before the season's first event, since you'll play a Major from Play-In to Finals with it.
- Try the trio out in Creative and the Divisional Cups first.
Post as a player with your rank, role, server and platform, and tick "FNCS" under "Looking for", or post as a duo looking for a third: Fortnite players and groups on TeamTavern. The official Fortnite Discord has an LFG channel too.
